Information about Our Recitals
Find information on our recitals on our website! And also in our monthly newsletters and weekly email communications, on flyers and handouts around the school, and by emailing questions to the Office or to me.
Q: Can students use their music / books at recitals?
A: Our preference, and our students’ goal, is to perform from memory. That said, it is more important that students perform, in any manner possible, than they perform from memory. This includes using music / books, performing smaller / incomplete portions of their music, and having a teacher perform with them.
If students use music / books, we recommend a “best practice” approach, which is to use a black binder or folder/cover and put only the music they will use inside (make photocopies as needed). The goals are to strive for a better appearance, to make it easier to find / turn to the music they will play, to avoid loose sheets on the piano, and not having to bring their regular lesson books to recitals.
Sometimes a student with a longer piece wants to spread out multiple sheets of music across the music stand. This is acceptable if not ideal, especially for non-piano instruments who are seeking to avoid turning pages.
Always strive to memorize music, even if we don’t get there! And remember, students should play the same music for multiple recitals, Forums, and masterclasses, etc… Ever striving to develop a repertoire of memorized music that can be played any time, anywhere, for anyone (not simply preparing for a once-and-done recital performance).
Reminder: Labor Day is OFF Day
Monday, September 1, 2025, Labor Day, is OFF (Closed). No regular lessons on that one day.
