Teachers and Staff: Happy Saturday!

Teacher Resources

There are a variety of resources for teachers in the shared Google drive named Teacher Resources. Resources include Sheet Music (subfolder) where you might find some beginner and intermediate Halloween and Holiday music, among other things. (More will be added ongoing.)

Teacher Resources

If you are unable to find or access this resource (Google folder) please let me know.

A Few Reminders

Please remember to keep the air conditioning at 73 or above (not below).

Please remember to put everything back where you found it, and tidy up the lesson rooms before you leave. Please review and complete the Exit Checklists, and please don’t leave a mess or disorganized room for the next teacher or the office team.

This includes drum sets and gear; if you reorganize the drums / Drums Room, please put things back exactly where they were before you changed them.

Labor Day is OFF Day

Monday, September 1, 2025, Labor Day, is OFF (Closed). No regular lessons on that one day.

Q: Do we use assignment books? Or, how do we track students’ assignments?

A: Our preferred method does not use assignment books, unless students specifically ask for them, and bring their own. Our preferred strategy is to use tabs, stickers, instructions penciled on the music itself, and sometimes post-it notes or sheets of paper.

  1. Use tabs to mark songs & pieces the student is working on: their ongoing and developing repertoire of music. (Tabs are included in students’ tote bags, and also in the desk organizers of each lesson room.) Students should be developing their repertoire of 5-10 or more songs & pieces that can be played “anywhere, any time, for anyone.”

  2. Use stickers to indicate when songs & pieces have been memorized / performed from memory for the first time. (See our Stickers & Prize Tickets program.)

  3. Write notes and instructions on their music and workbooks/worksheets in pencil for the student, as needed.

  4. Supplement, as needed, with post-it notes and individual sheets of paper.

  5. If requested (and provided) by a student or parent, you can use assignment books. But please remember that per our philosophy and experience, assignment books are ineffective for most students. That said, we still follow the student, and so in cases where they want them, or we are convinced they will really help them, then we can use them. Strive to make them positive and rewarding.
