The fundamentals about music lessons including price, scheduling, instruments, teachers, curriculum, and how to get started… at the Dennis Frayne Music Studios, Laguna Niguel & Lake Forest Schools of Music.

Get the basic information you need to get started in music lessons. As you might expect, on one hand, there are some complexities about offerings, costs, schedules, etc. On the other hand, there are some very simple basics that you convey the most important information for many students and families.

These are The Fundamentals. (The most simple answer is underlined, then a few more details follow.)

Price

$200-$400 per month, depending on a few variables such as whether you take individual private lessons or small group lessons, in-studio or in-home, etc. We also offer more than one lesson per week, and other options and add-ons. Studio membership is tuition-based, not per lesson. Choir is more like $100 per month. Payments are monthly (no long-term contract in most cases).

Instruments

We strive to teach every instrument, including voice. And Choir.

Scheduling

We strive to find lesson days and times that work with your schedule. You tell us your availability and we will do everything in our power to make lessons fit your availability. We will start new classes as need be. We will hire more teachers as need be.

Teachers

All of our teachers are amazing! Our teachers are kind, thoughtful, talented, and caring. We only hire gentle, skilled, devoted teachers! We strive to teach each unique student the way they learn. We strive to make lessons meaningful and relevant to each student's needs and goals. We guarantee every student will love their teacher or we will switch teachers until they are happy with their teacher.

Curriculum

For piano and guitar, we use our own in-house curriculum. For all other instruments and voice, teachers determine the right curriculum based on their preferences, experience, teaching strategies, and the levels, needs, and goals of their students. We supplement all curriculum to respond to student requests and the music they love. We strive to develop well-rounded musicians, which includes skills on their instrument, and also music theory, musicianship, rhythm, ear training, music technology, and an understanding of historical and contemporary music cultures, styles, and genres.
