October 25, 2025: Saturday Remix

Teachers and Staff: Happy Monday!

(We had a very busy weekend so our Remix is a little late... But it's here!)

Saturday Remix Archive

I encourage new teachers to read all the Saturday Remixes from the beginning… It’s a lot perhaps but will orient you to many things related to our school, our operations, and our teaching philosophies and strategies.

And it can be a useful refresher for all teachers!

Fall Off-Days (Tuesday - Sunday)

Lessons are ON for Monday, 10/27, and then OFF for Tuesday, 10/28 through Sunday, 11/2. No regular lessons over this period. Day 2 of our Fall recitals are Saturday, November 1 (see below).

Some teachers have special assignments during the off-week (such as introductory lessons) – those lessons are ON, of course!

Providing Recital Repertoire

We have our second day of recitals on Saturday, November 1st. I appreciate all teachers who are providing their students’ recital repertoire early enough for me to get it on the program!

Note: If you wait until the last minute, it likely will not get on the program. Let’s do good by our students and help me get their recital repertoire on the program. Please check the emails to parents with recital rosters, and if you do not see your student’s repertoire listed, please send it to me.

Expo Eraser vs Cleaner

When erasing content from the dry erase board, please use the eraser first, and then only use the spray cleaner for finishing-touch cleaning. Please don’t use the cleaner and towel to do the basic erasing.

Keeping Rooms Tidy and Organized

Another reminder: We keep asking teachers to please clean up and tidy up after each lesson. We want our lesson rooms attractive for everyone, and we do not want to leave a mess for the next teacher. Please let’s keep the bar high for professionalism, kindness, and respect for others!

This photo is another example of what NOT to do:

(The cable should go back to its home on the wall hook or the proper location where it was taken from.)

Q: What if my student wants to experiment with another instrument? Can I have them bring it from home to their lesson?

A: Yes! While generally speaking each student takes lessons on one instrument, if a student asks to bring in a second instrument, please encourage them to do that! Remember, music lessons should encompass a wide and deep range of content that encompasses all aspects of music learning and musicianship. Using additional instruments to teach musical skills and concepts can be valuable and rewarding.

Even if you do not know how to play the instrument, you can still have them bring it and coach them on it in some way. You can also watch appropriate videos with them, and even learn alongside them on their non-primary instruments.

Thank you, everyone, for all that you do!

Have a magical Saturday, a musical weekend, and a safe and healthy coming week.

Thank you,

Dennis Frayne
